Frequently Asked Questions

Who is organizing this trip?

This trip is organized and initiated by your group leader and/or teacher. The tour is led by Vámonos Tours Inc., a cultural immersion student travel company that specializes in middle school and Spanish immersion.

Is Vamonos Tours insured and certified as an educational tour business?

Vamonos Tours Inc. is a licensed and Delaware incorporated company insured for both professional liability and errors & omissions by The Berkely Group. In addition, Vamonos Tours is a member of the prestigious SYTA (Student & Youth Travel Association), NTA (National Tour Assocation), and PRCB (Puerto Rico Convention Bureau).

What will the students do in Puerto Rico? Students will live and breathe Puerto Rican culture on a daily basis. They will eat only in authentic Hispanic restaurants and bakeries, visit the rain forest, relax at numerous beaches, learn about the numerous tropical ecosystems on a VIP eco-boat tour, visit a sparkling bioluminescent bay by night, tour Old San Juan and its main fort, and speak Spanish (when applicable) with the Vámonos Tours friends and staff among many other activities.

How and with whom will students be traveling?

They will be traveling throughout the island by private charter coach bus. In addition to the Vámonos Tours members meeting the group in Puerto Rico, students will be traveling with at least two additional teachers and interested parent chaperones.

What are the hotel arrangements?

Students can expect to room with two to four other students. The group leader will carefully review rooming assignments before the trip. Hotel rooms are located so that they are concentrated and easily monitored by chaperones.

Bedtime is strictly enforced, and students are informed of consequences before leaving on the trip. Most hotels will provide a night guard for extra security and supervision. We rarely have problems enforcing bedtime. Our days start early and are very active. Students tend to look forward to getting some sleep at the end of the day.

How is the trip supervised?

Students are always together with the chaperones. In some instances, we split up into small groups, with five or six students per adult. When we stay in La Parguera (a small village of one street and the site of the Splendid boat trip) students have free time, where they may move about the town square in groups to buy food and souvenirs. Chaperones monitor the square during free time and have students in close view (the town square is quite small). Whereas no one has ever gotten separated from the group during the trip, all students are required to carry contact numbers with them, just in case (hotels, tour leaders’ cell phone numbers, etc..).

When is the main meeting?

There will be a mandatory student-parent meeting for one evening a month prior to departure. We will be in contact with you in the coming months to confirm the date and location. We will discuss behavior and safety guidelines, insurance information, what to bring (and what not to bring), and what to expect on the trip in general. There may also be one or two additional student meetings to introduce students to Puerto Rican culture and some Spanish terms they will need to know for the trip.

Who can I call if I have more questions?
