DAY 1: SAN JOSÉ / SARAPIQUI

Welcome to Latin America’s “Switzerland.” Meet your tour director as you depart for Sarapiqui. Visit a butterfly farm with cultural stops and sights en route to our hotel. Participate in a cultural tour of Sarchi village, the cradle for arts and crafts in Costa Rica. Visit a “carreta” factory.

DAY 2: SARAPIQUI/ FORTUNA

Enjoy an adventurous morning of whitewater rafting in the Sarapiqui river. Then drive to the northern plains and visit an organic farm where you will have lunch then try your hand at grinding coffee, making sugar cane juice, and even cooking your own tortilla. Have dinner and spend the night with a local family in Fortuna. (Currently homestays and student exchanges have been put on hold until the pandemic is over.)

DAY 3: ARENAL/ FORTUNA

Visit a local community and a school as you interact with students. Afterward enjoy a homemade lunch made by the parents association. After lunch hike the 1968 trail, which is the closest you can get to Arenal Volcano. Tour the Baldi Hot Springs near Arenal Volcano and spend some time in the  natural pools. Some are hot and some are cold!

DAY 4: MONTEVERDE

Spend the day hiking and exploring Monteverde Cloud Forest. Learn about the different flora and fauna in Costa Rica. Experience a guided night hike through the forest.

DAY 5: MONTEVERDE

Depart for a canopy zipline tour – Soar over the jungle on an amazing zipline adventure. Spend the afternoon exploring the town and shopping for souvenirs.

DAY 6: MONTE VERDE/ JACO BEACH

After breakfast depart for Jaco Beach. Spend the afternoon exploring the town and shopping in small groups. Enjoy an ice cream break at locals’ favorite “Pops” Head back to the hotel and spend some time relaxing by the pool or enjoying the view of the Pacific ocean from the black sand beach.

DAY 7: MANUEL ANTONIO NATIONAL PARK

Visit Manuel Antonio National Park with a local nature guide. Hike the trails and enjoy close-up encounters with the wild life. In the afternoon enjoy some beach time at the park, but beware the Capuchin mafia! They like to steal your food! Watch “perezosos” climbing in the trees overhead.

DAY 8: JACO BEACH/ SAN JOSE

Spend the morning visiting the Doka Estate coffee plantation. Sample their various brews and find out how their coffee is grown and processed. Enjoy lunch at the plantation. Head to San José for a short walking tour. Enjoy a fond farewell dinner at a local Italian restaurant.

DAY 9: SAN JOSÉ – HOME

Reminisce about all your people to people and nature experiences as you head home.
